Chevron U.S.A. Inc. announced the launch of its 2015 Fuel Your School program, an innovative collaboration with DonorsChoose.org, an online organization that makes it easy for anyone to help students in need, in Clayton, DeKalb and Fulton counties. Building on the 39,528 local students who benefitted last year, Fuel Your School is now in its third year in Clayton, DeKalb and Fulton counties and will generate up to $400,000 this fall, which will help fund classroom supplies and materials, including those focused on science, technology, engineering and math (STEM), and hands-on activities to help connect real world experiences to classroom learning.

“At Chevron, we support STEM initiatives that help teach students how to analyze problems to build real-world problem solving skills,” said George Wall, vice president of Chevron Americas Products, U.S. East & Latin America. “The innovative Fuel Your School program helps provide hands-on materials for students to ignite their curiosity and make learning fun."

Beginning Sept. 1, 2015, public school teachers from Clayton, DeKalb and Fulton counties are invited to post eligible classroom projects HERE. Then, from Oct. 1 through Oct. 31, 2015, the Fuel Your School program will donate $1, up to a total of $400,000, to help fund eligible classroom projects when consumers purchase eight or more gallons of fuel at participating Chevron and Texaco stations.

Last year, Chevron’s Fuel Your School program helped fund 317 eligible classroom projects for public schools in Clayton, DeKalb and Fulton counties, including Mr. Esposito’s classroom at Grady High School in Atlanta. His students received physics starter packs and a data-gathering device. The materials helped students realize the benefit of technology to measure physics principles.

“Chevron’s Fuel Your School program has helped propel our science program into the 21st century,” said recipient teacher Mr. Esposito. “I already have numerous experiments that these tools will assist with, and am already thinking of more. If the curriculum is presented with labs, demonstrations and data-driven discussions, the concepts become that much easier to understand.”

Since its inception in 2010, Fuel Your School has helped fund more than 23,500 classroom projects at more than 4,000 schools in the U.S. Chevron recognizes the importance of STEM education to the future and encourages classroom project requests that support STEM subjects. Fuel Your School is one of the many education programs Chevron supports. As part of its STEM education initiatives, Chevron’s goal is to arm students with the critical skills they will need to succeed in the jobs of the future. Chevron has invested $200 million in STEM education worldwide since 2013.
