Essentials for a Healthy Family Vacation

The sun is high in the sky while you unwind with toes in the sand, listening to waves crash the shore and your little ones laugh covered from head to toe.
The park is packed with family faces you have not seen in years, but love so much. The food table extends as far as the eye can see while kids play hide and seek and you dwell on the old and catch up on the new.
The Grand Canyon seems boundless behind your little ones as you line them up for a photo. Hours of hiking, but the kids never ran out of things to say or questions to ask, but as your family stands there looking out at immense beauty, they are speechless.
Whether it’s a trip to the coast, a family reunion or adventure into nature, families all across town are finding time to escape their routine of summer camps, soccer practice and sunburns by the pool.
Before you close the trunk and buckle up the last kiddo, there are travel essentials you cannot overlook. Here is a check list to ensure your family brings back new memories and not new bugs and sickness.
The Travel Healthy Essentials:
  1. Make a family trip to the chiropractor before and after the trip - To strengthen your immunity against sickness while traveling, your family needs nervous systems that are functioning at 100%. A gentle, specific adjustment from the chiropractor allows the family to drive off with peace of mind. Then, after a week of adventure, late bed times, delicious treats and long travel times, everybody’s body will benefit from getting checked when you return by your chiropractor. Your chiropractor will ensure your spine is in alignment so that your body can express true health. If a bone has shifted during your travels, potentially impairing your nervous system function and brain communication, they will help your body regain its natural, healthy state with an adjustment.
  2. Pack Healthy Snacks - Vacation usually means time to overindulge the foodie inside, but it will overdrive your digestive system. Be gentle with it by sneaking in healthy snacks. We love sliced fruit and veggies, dried fruit and nuts, and on-the-go organic packaged snacks.
  3. Pack Gym Shoes - Walking is a great way to stay active, but also an easy opportunity to explore the undiscovered corners of a new town. Make it a family event to walk as much as you can as you try new restaurants, shops and sight-see.
  4. Pack Essential Oils - Oils are an effective, natural way to fight off any symptoms that may arise from the plane ride to the car ride, and to the spots crowded with tourists. Peppermint oil is great for upset stomachs, sore muscles and joints and mental fatigue. Lavender is great for sunburn or skin irritations from being outside. Finally, eucalyptus and lemon oils are great for prevention as they boost the immune system.
  5. Pack Water Bottles - Pack reusable large water bottles for each family member. It’s a cost-effective solution to ensure everyone is fueling their body for the fun, long hours of vacation. A dehydrated body is susceptible to sickness and fatigue.
  6. Pack Sunscreen - Be intentional on applying and re-applying sunscreen. Bring both the large family-size and small travel-size bottles so you can be prepared for every moment of the trip. They may be dying to jump in the pool, but teach kids the extreme importance of protecting their skin now. When they are healthy adults, they will appreciate you for it.
Be prepared and be intentional when it comes to your family staying healthy during travels. Toes in the sand, hugs from family, and cross-country sights are much more enjoyable when the entire family is healthy and energized and remain that way.
