Come Dash for Dyslexia

10th Annual Dyslexia Dash held on October 15

By Dyslexia Dash September 29, 2016
Governor Nathan Deal has declared October 2016 as Dyslexia Awareness Month in Georgia “to provide an opportunity to share information about dyslexia with the public, parents, teachers and other community members”. And for good reason. Dyslexia, a language-based learning disability that is neurological in origin, affects approximately 15-20% of the population. Of those who are students, 70-80% struggle with reading. Without early diagnosis and intervention, 74% of children who are poor readers in 3rd grade remain poor readers in 9th grade and into adulthood.
It’s likely that you know someone that is affected by dyslexia. That’s why the International Dyslexia Association – Georgia Branch (IDA-GA) is committed to increase awareness of dyslexia through community events including the 10th annual Dyslexia Dash, a 5K Run/Walk to be held on Saturday, October 15 at 8am at Perimeter Mall. Proceeds from the event will be used to fund dyslexia education, teacher training and awareness programs in Georgia.
This family friendly event, a USTAF Certified Course and Peachtree Qualifier will include:
  • Discounts for groups, children under 10 and cross country teams
  • Ribbon, t-shirt and lots of swag
  • Awards given for top three in each age/gender category
  • Kid-Zone with fun games and activities
  • Raffle Prizes!
