Review: Medieval Times

By Diana Cole August 10, 2013
This past weekend I went to Medieval Times with my family.  I have always wanted to go to since I was a kid to the Lyndhurst, NJ castle.  My parents never brought me there, so I jumped at the opportunity to go the Atlanta castle.   It was definitely worth the wait.
Once you enter the castle from the mall you are transformed into a different era.   Your first stop after getting your crown was to meet the Princess and King.   My girls were SO excited!!!  In the castle, you have LOTS of opportunities to purchase pictures and different souvenirs you might want / need for the tournament.
Then the announcer announces all the rules while you are waiting to go into the arena.   He announces you to go into the arena by color of your crown.  We were cheering for the black and white knight!    There was also the red, red-yellow, green, blue, and yellow knights.
Our Serf Matt asked about food allergies, vegetarian meals and our drink choices (Pepsi, Sweet Tea, or Water).  Another Serf came around and took our bar order.    Like a well-orchestrated performance, (well it was), Serf Matt came and brought our drinks plus our first course: Tomato Bisque and Garlic Bread.   There was one thing missing on our table sitting; silverware.   They didn’t have silverware in the medieval times.   The bowl had a handle on it so, you could drink your soup.  It was delicious and hot.  (I asked for ice to cool it down for the kids).
While you are eating your soup you are being entertained by horses doing amazing dances.  You are also watching Lady Ann perform with her amazing Falcon.
The King and Princess also announce Birthdays, Anniversary, or any other thing special event you want announced to the arena.
Serf Matt then brought out the roasted chicken, spare rib, and potato.  The meal was HUGE and delicious.   He then also served us a delicious apple turn over and coffee / tea. (Sorry I took a bite)

Then the pageantry.

After everyone was served we started to watch the story unfold.  A Herald from another region offers a gift to the Kingdom in honor of the tournament.   But he also wants the Princess’ hand in marriage.  The King refuses and has challenges to find the best Knight.  They have a battle of the best.   Including relay race, bulls–eye, and javelin throws, just like they did in medieval times. After each event the Knights are given roses to throw to the audience.   A net came down to protect the audience, because of a fighting sequence.   They use titanium weapons.  They can’t fatally hurt each other but the weapons do “spark” and leave bruises to the knights.  (The knights go through 4 months of Knight training in Florida).  At one point, all six Knights, are presented with a Sash to give to the prettiest young Princess in his section.

(My girls are still fighting about it).

You can purchase tickets to see Medieval Times in the Sugarloaf Mall 5900 Sugarloaf Pkwy
Lawrenceville, Georgia 30043 by going through this link.  Adults are $33.77 and kids 3-12 are $26.96 with my Macaroni Kid Discount.
It was a great time by all.  After the show you are given opportunity to meet the Knights, Herald, Princess, and King and take pictures!   My kids are still talking about it a week later.

Medieval Times gave my family and I complimentary tickets to review all of the pageantry.   My views are my own though.
