Review: Lego Kids Fest

Giveaway: Lego Kid Fest Loot

By Diana Cole, Publisher Macaroni Kid Sandy Springs Dunwoody July 4, 2014
I was recently invited to attend the Lego Kids Fest in Atlanta.   All of the opinions are my own.

When you first walk into Lego Kids Fest, you see a lot of Lost Parents areas.  They also remind the parents to take pictures of their children.       I felt this was important to note because the Lego Kids Fest organizers do realize there will be parents lost.   I, in fact lost my family but thanks to cell phones caught up with them.

The Lego Festival was divided into many sections for family fun.

One area is the Lego Model Museum.   Here you will see life sized Lego models.

Don’t forget to get your camera ready for the Big Brick Pile.   This was a huge pile of loose Legos where kids would jump into and swim through them.  I encouraged my kids to do Lego angels.

There are many Lego Build Areas around the Festival.  My children did not go to Duplo area, specifically made for kids ages 1-5.     But they did go to the Monochromatic build.  They created this!

At the race ramps, you could build Lego race cars then race against others.

One of my son’s favorite parts was the Lego Master Builder workshop with Dan.   Get there early to get an assigned time.   The workshop lasts 35-40 minutes and you can hear a pin drop in this section.   Master Builder Dan had the kids captivated and then had them create a model.  Unfortunately the Master Builder doesn’t have time to applaud all of the kids (up to 130 children) on their creations, but he does compliment the ones he sees.

My girls’ favorite part was the Lego Friends and create your own Fairy tale section.  Three had a blast creating Legos.   There was also the photo booth.

The Ninjago section allowed one to set up a team of six lego ninjas on a circular platform and battle with another person with a team.

At the brick battle zone, there was also a Lego bridge building contest were there were 6 teams of 10 kids competing to build the strongest bridge.

In the Lego City, they had city-like surroundings where there were tall buildings and streets surrounding the buildings.  Then, there was a two island set up where there was a road assembled to connect the islands.  One of the islands had a tunnel where cars had to be pushed through to get to the other side.  Each island had a parking deck and/or garage.   In the Lego city, the kids used their imagination to build vehicles and buildings.

Throughout the festival there were Lego bins to assemble any characters, buildings, or cars.  My son enjoyed the contests such as the creative design, robot building, and bridge assembling.

Another favorite section of all was the Creation Nation, here they all assembled a creation to be put in the United States Nation of Legos.   All of the employees were awesome, and the kids directed them to be their creation in NYC.

My girls also had fun at the Lego Art Gallery.   Here you can build a masterpiece to put on a gallery.

A couple things to note, get there early.  There is a huge line for your scheduled time.   Wear comfortable shoes.   There are chairs, but not nearly enough for all of the people.   Bring a bag to put in all of your loot.  Included in your admission, Lego Kid’s fest will give the children free Lego sets.   Write these down.   The areas to go to are the Lego Challenge Zone, Lego Club (magazine), Lego Friends, Lego Star Wars, Creation Nation, and the Cartoon Network / Lego Land.

Lego Kids Fest is a great time to be had for all families’ especially young kids where there is no shortage of fun.  This is something that all young Lego fanatics need to attend.
