2014 Special Needs Advocate for Parents of Georgia

SNAP of Georgia will be hosting a Parent Support Group for special needs parents that live in the Metro-Atlanta area. This support group will allow parents to discuss issues with their child with other parents. The overall reason for the support group is to provide parents a mean to combat the issues they are having with their child in today's school system. 2014 Kids Enabled Resource Fair

Kids Enabled was founded in 2005 to help other parents navigate the special needs community more easily. Learning differences is defined as a diagnosis that falls within the neurological disorder spectrum such as speech, auditory processing, language processing, visual processing, dyslexia, dysgraphia, dyscalculia, ADHD, autism and Asperger Syndrome.

FBAs & BIPs Parent and Professional Workshop

The Problem Behavior Solutions workshop focuses on how to go about systematically addressing each of those behaviors that make for bad days and replace them with behaviors that make for great days! This workshop is for parents who want to develop new skills for problem solving and finding solutions, and for school and agency staff as well. This workshop presents a three-tier approach to performing Functional Behavioral Assessments. Participants will receive instruction in direct observation for Functional Behavioral Assessments along with material designed to guide them through the first two stages of the process.

FREE Special Needs College, Education, and Resource Fair
This is a combination of the Transition Fair and the Special Needs Resource Fair which have been held in previous years. The conference is for all teachers and guardians of students with 504 Plans and IEPs. There will be sessions for; transitioning beyond high school, navigating the IEP and 504 Plan processes, Person Centered Planning, SSI/Medicaid, Vocational Rehab, Colleges, Which classes to take in high school, Special Education Law, Decreasing Homework stress, Estate planning, Ask experts your questions. More than 40 vendors are expected to be on hand to discuss community resources and services available.
