July 20th in national Moon Day!  It commemorates the day in 1969 that Armstong and Aldrin landed on the moon and proclaimed "That's one small step for a man, one giant leap for mankind".

In President Kennedy's speech to Congress, on May 25, 1961, he expressed a concern that the United States was falling behind the Soviet Union in technology and prestige.
