Riverwood International Charter School is proud to announce that Professional School Counselor, Jonathan Altidor, and his wife Rhandi, a seventh-grade teacher, were featured on The Kelly Clarkson show discussing their newly formed company, the Better Buggy. The Better Buggy connects Black-owned farmers and grocers to supply fresh groceries, including vegan and organic options, in the Atlanta area and nationwide. The two educators created the business while in quarantine, and their business has grown exponentially in six months.
Armed with a passion for helping Black-owned businesses, the Altidors saw a void in the accessibility and delivery of organically grown produce in Black communities. To address this, they reached out to local Black-owned grocery stores and farms to establish delivery service of fruits and vegetables. The couple initially delivered the product themselves, but their business quickly grew in popularity. The Better Buggy now has three delivery trucks that pick-up produce and delivers it straight to consumers' doors. They expanded further and now offer shipment nationwide.

Mr. Altidor has been a counselor at Riverwood International Charter School for two years, where he counsels high school students on course selection, college readiness, career planning, and general academic support.
Mr. Altidor shared: "Starting a business in the middle of the pandemic was crazy. Even though we were home, we had to do a lot while still considering COVID-19 and safety measures. Initially, everything was going so quickly; we had to slow down and ensure we were doing things correctly. But nothing brings us more joy than seeing our urban farmers all smiles, gaining weekly customers after being significantly impacted by Covid-19."
Whether helping high school students achieve academic success or supporting their local community, Altidor and his wife are focused on improving people's lives. Their story and the formation of The Better Buggy are a bright light in an otherwise challenging year.
