Tony Award®-Winner Shuler Hensley directs City Springs Theatre Company’s production of this inspiring new musical based on a remarkable true story
7,000 stranded passengers. One small town. A remarkable true story about the very best of humankind. City Springs Theatre Company (CSTC) proudly presents the exciting Regional Premiere of the Tony®-nominated Best Musical of 2017, Come From Away. The show, set in Gander, Newfoundland, features only 12 performers, each playing multiple roles, and is directed by CSTCs own Artistic Director, Shuler Hensley. Performances will take place March 13 – 29, at the Byers Theatre in the Sandy Springs Performing Arts Center. The production is part of the company’s 2025-26 PNC Bank Season of musicals in Sandy Springs.
Winner of four 2019 Olivier Awards® including Best New Musical, Come From Away presents the incredible real-life story of 7,000 air passengers who were grounded in the wake of the 9/11 attacks, and the small Newfoundland community that invited these “come from aways” into their town with open hearts. What starts out like any other day quickly turns into an international five-day sleepover with the proud, eclectic Gander community cheering on the weary and distraught travelers with music, an open bar and the recognition that we’re all part of a global family.
With a book and score by the Canadian husband-and-wife team of Irene Sankoff and David Hein, Come From Away is directed by Shuler Hensley, a native Atlantan and a Tony® and Olivier Award®-winning performer and director who previously helmed the acclaimed CSTC productions of The Sound of Music, Fiddler on the Roof and The Music Man. Hensley most-recently directed the sold-out concert performance of the classic Rodgers and Hammerstein musical Oklahoma! at Carnegie Hall, starring Ana Gasteyer, Jasmine Amy Rogers, and David Hyde Pierce. The choreographer for the show is Marla Phelan, and Holt McCarley will serve as music director.
