Description

The City of Dunwoody's celebration of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day will include two important components: the "Souper Bowl of Caring" in December and January - and the Day of Service on January 17 (postponed to Feb 5).

Souper Bowl of Caring

Between December 1 and January 17, Dunwoody will become a “Souper Bowl of Caring” City, pledging to collect 55,000 pounds of food for the Community Assistance Center and Malachi’s Storehouse . This community food drive is presented by Dunwoody Parks and Recreation in partnership with the Dunwoody-Atlanta Chapter of Jack and Jill of America, Inc.

Please drop off non-perishable food items only. Check back as drop off location dates/times throughout the city will continue to be added.

Tree Planting with Trees Atlanta

Report to: Brook Run Park Great Lawn. Closest park entrance and parking is off Peeler Rd. (2341 Peeler Rd.)

Project Details: Help us plant 100 trees near the multi-use fields of Brook Run Park! Project time of 9am-12pm.

Daffodil Planting with The Daffodil Project

Report to: Brook Run Park Great Lawn. Closest park entrance and parking is off Peeler Rd. (2341 Peeler Rd.)

Project Details: Help us plant 5,000 daffodil bulbs in the beauty strip along Peeler Road. This is a great all ages option. Project time of 9am-12pm.

Cleanup at Dunwoody Nature Center

Report to: Dunwoody Nature Center, 5343 Roberts Drive.

Project Details: We need help weeding, mulching, invasive species removal, and scrubbing and disinfecting event furniture. Project time of 10am-1pm. Volunteers must be 12 years and older.

Cleanup at Brook Run Dog Park

Report to: Brook Run Dog Park, 4770 N. Peachtree Rd.

Project Details: We need help spreading gravel, walking through woods to help pick up forgotten poo, securing bags to perimeter fence to help remind others to pick up, etc. Asking for 5-10 volunteers. Project time of 9am-12pm.

Cleanup at Brook Run Community Garden

Report to: Brook Run Community Garden, 4770 N. Peachtree Rd, near the disc golf entrance.

Project Details: We need help installing edging around our kiwi beds and brambles; and 5-7 adults to dig a shallow trench, install and stake the edging, backfill the soil, and weed out the beds post-installation. Project time of 9am-12pm.

Picnic Table Restoration at Brook Run Park

Report to: Brook Run Park Greenhouse (next to the Skate Park)  

Project Details: Create Dunwoody will host a volunteer opportunity to help restore picnic tables from Dunwoody's Picnic Table Project. 8 volunteers are needed from 10am-2pm to assist in cleaning, painting, and sealing picnic tables.
