It's strawberry picking season! Blueberries will be ready for harvest around the end of June. Here are a few suggestions for farms to visit, and you can find more information about harvest dates and pick-your-own farms at Georgia Farm Bureau's Certified Markets. Make sure to call ahead to confirm your visit and safety protocols. Farms often have to change their schedules depending on the weather and harvest.
Strawberry Picking Tips
Pick strawberries that are completely red, plump, and firm. The berries do not ripen after they are picked off the plants.
Do not pull the berries, gently twist your strawberries off the vine and pinch the stem of the berry.
Lift and look under the strawberry leaves to find berries.
Handle berries gently, as they bruise easily. Don't overfill your buckets or press down on the berries.
Pick strawberries in the early morning or early evening to avoid the sun
Bring a hat and sunscreen.
