Atlanta Braves launch annual “Home Run Readers” program

By Atlanta Braves July 3, 2015
This summer, the Atlanta Braves and the Georgia Public Library Service are partnering for the 2015 Home Run Readers Summer Reading Program presented by SUBWAY Restaurants.

This educational outreach program promotes literacy and encourages students to advance their reading skills during the summer months. Home Run Readers rewards students in grades K-12 throughout the state of Georgia by providing a Braves ticket and a SUBWAY Fresh Fit For Kids meal when the students read books and complete an online activity. The program will run from May 15-August 24, and more information can be found HERE.

In an effort to promote the program regionally, a special bingo game called “H-O-M-E-R” Bingo has been created and will launch in fifteen libraries in early June to kick off Georgia Public Libraries’ summer reading initiatives. The Braves will also visit three libraries in the metro Atlanta area with Homer the mascot and play the “H-O-M-E-R” Bingo game with the youth in attendance.

On Saturday, June 6, the Braves will also host their first Braves Home Run Readers Book Drive for Childhood Literacy in conjunction with the Atlanta Federal Executive Board Leadership Government Program. The book drive will take place in Monument Grove in front of Turner Field from 4 p.m. until the end of the first inning. Fans that donate will be entered into a raffle to win Braves autographed memorabilia.

To conclude the program, the Braves will host a special pregame party at a home game in September and invite all Home Run Readers to celebrate their accomplishments during the summer months. Prizes will be awarded to the top male and female in each grade level for their answers to the online activity. Additional details will be announced at a later date.
