Rumpelstiltskin at the Center for Puppetry Arts

Review

By Diana Cole August 10, 2013
My daughters’ have never heard the story of Rumpelstiltskin.  I know “Bad Mom”.    So they were VERY excited to see the Puppet show at the Center for Puppetry Arts.

The story, if you are a “Bad Mom” like me is that the Kate’s dad brags that “his daughter can spin straw into gold!”  The greedy Queen overhears them and holds Kate captive in the dungeon or “um spinning room”.   Kate must now find a way to make good on her father’s boast! A mysterious little man appears and offers his magical assistance…but at what price?     Kate, along with her friends: Prince William, Teddy, Captain,
Harlequino and the Blue Bird solve the mysterious man's riddle to save the day.

The show has lots of hidden humor for the adults and kept my girls ages 5 and 8 captivated.   There is lots of dancing and signing.  Have I mentioned the sets were amazing?   It starts in the town, and goes to the dungeon, forest, and back again all with out seeing the stage hands.

My 8-years-old's favorite part was when Rumpelstiltskin made the gold.  My 5-years-old's favorite part was when was the Captain was telling about the Goldilocks and the Three Bears, “the scariest story EVER”!

Based on the fairy tale by the Brothers Grimm, these marionettes will spin grins onto the faces of kids and adults alike.

You can see Rumpelstiltskin at the Center for Puppetry Arts at 1404 Spring St. NW at 18th Atlanta, GA 30309-2820 USA from August 10 through September 8, 2013 . In the Downstairs Theater.  Recommended for ages 4 & up.
