Review: The Garage Dude

Making Garages Look Cool

By Diana Cole September 27, 2013
This past week, Scott Saffran, the Owner of The Garage Dude came to my house to help transform my garage from a cluttered mess to an organized, functional space. My garage was very common for a Mom of three Kids. I basically parked in the middle of the garage with stuff around the perimeter making it very difficult to find anything. I also have a two car garage, but could only park my minivan in it, while my husband’s car has always been parked outside.

As soon as Scott came to my house, he worked efficiently and effectively to take everything out of the garage and create four piles. Does that sound familiar? One pile Donate, one pile Garbage, one pile Sell, and the final pile, Keep. He then sorted the Keep pile into “Logistical Groupings”: Gardening, kids, sports, arts n crafts, holiday/seasonal, and kitchen overflow.

I had decided before Scott arrived I was going to sell the kids’ Jeep and my Mountain Buggy Stroller. They are big and bulky, so Scott was happy I was getting rid of them but my kids however, LOL.

During the process, Scott gave me numerous recommendations to better utilize the space in my garage.  He highlighted that items I use more often should be at an easy to reach height, versus seasonal items that are not used often should be put higher up.  Scott did a great job repurposing my existing shelving and old cabinets I had from the previous owners, so I had a lot of available storage on top of the cabinets ready to go. We put our Jump Castle up there, extra car seat, extra paint, etc. In the cabinets we made a kid’s area filled with bubbles, chalk, and sidewalk paint. Scott also recommends using as much wall space as possible too. He hung my wreaths on the walls so I have easy access to them and they look great.

Scott lets you know if there is evidence of little friends that live in the garage. When I say little friends, they make one shriek.

My Goal when I met with Scott was to possibly park both cars in the garage and not be embarrassed by when the garage door is open. I am proud to say, he accomplished both.  Not only were my kid’s excited, but my husband was shocked to see the transformation that the occurred and was ecstatic to be able to park his car in the garage also.

The Garage Dude organized my garage in exchange for this review. My opinions are my own.
