A trip to Fernbank is never complete without going to Nature’s Quest. Here the kids can climb the club house, walk through a waterfall, or walk over a stream with fish. No matter what the child’s age, there is always fun to be had.
We also love going to Sensing Nature Room. We call it the Bubble room. Sensing Nature playfully demonstrates the role of our senses in interpreting our environment. Interactive stations demonstrate how our senses sometimes interpret visual and audial cues, which can sometimes lead to false perceptions. As you gain a better understanding of how your senses work together to understand the environment, learn how your senses work together to understand the weather. Witness a tornado forming right before your eyes, then step into the forecasting station and deliver your own TV weather report.
Another favorite is the A Walk Through Time in Georgia. Explore modern Georgia in a series of realistic dioramas that capture the sights and sounds of the state's main geographic regions. Your journey begins in the Piedmont, the region in Georgia with the oldest rocks, and ends at the Coast and Barrier Islands, Georgia's youngest region. Along the way, you will encounter an amazing array of animals and plants and learn more about the geographical regions these creatures call home. In third grade, my children learned about all of the regions and animals that called the areas home. I love walking through time in Georgia. It just reinforces what their teachers taught.
