The Center for Puppetry Arts is thrilled to announce a Very Merry Holiday Celebration.  Their theater is a production of the heartwarming and funny Stan the Lovesick Snowman, based on Hans Christian Andersen's short story “The Snow Man.”  The story is adapted and directed by the Center’s Artistic Director Jon Ludwig.  Stan the Lovesick Snowman will be presented on the Mainstage Theater from November 24, 2020, through January 3, 2021.

We feel confident that the mitigation measures we have in place will ensure the safety of our staff and guests and allow us to bring some cheer to the community this holiday season with this adorable tale,” said Executive Director Beth Schiavo.

Opposites attract in Stan the Lovesick Snowman, a charming tale of looking for love in all the wrong places.  Stan’s delightful story begins after a chance encounter with a dog that has been sent outside in the wintry cold.  The dog tells a snowman about a warm stove inside the house, and with a “crack-crackle” in his heart, Stan falls in love with the wood-burning beauty.   The unlikely romance, doomed from the start, is only the beginning in this hilarious tale as Stan later discovers that a young snowwoman is swooning over him as well.

Stan is the ultimate hopeless romantic,” says Jon Ludwig.  “There is so much humor in a snowman in love with a wood stove and there is a sweet lesson that ‘love will win in the end’. It’s a good time to warm ourselves up with an enchanting tale of misdirected love and the ultimate understanding of who your real friends are.

Husband and wife puppeteer-duo Tim and Amy Sweeney portray 13 characters in the production, including Stan the Snowman, Abigail the Snowwoman, Alice the Dog, the Moose Mailman, a trouble-making Cat, and more.  This delightful fairy tale, recommended for ages four and up, will melt the hearts of audiences.

As part of the Center’s Very Merry Holiday Celebration, in addition to Stan the Lovesick Snowman, the Center is presenting Very Merry Puppetry: Puppets of Holidays Past, Present, and Future. As part of Museum admission or an all-inclusive ticket, guests will be treated to a spectacular special exhibit of holiday puppets from Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer™, Emmet Otter’s Jug-Band Christmas, Sabrina the Teenage Witch and more. This holiday exhibit opens Wednesday, November 18th.

In addition to all of the holiday programming, as part of the Very Merry Holiday Celebration, the Center will offer guests a 10% discount off of merchandise from the Center’s Museum Store. Guests can enjoy savings on their holiday shopping while knowing that their purchases will help keep the Center thriving during these unprecedented times.

All-inclusive tickets to Stan the Lovesick Snowman vary by date and range from $15-$30. Tickets include the performance, the Create-A Puppet Workshop™ (where guests can make a puppet in person or take home a to-go kit to make their own Stan the Lovesick Snowman Rod Puppet), and admission to the Worlds of Puppetry Museum, featuring the Center’s global gallery and the largest collection of Jim Henson puppets in the world.
