Zoo Atlanta opens Splash Fountain

By Diana Cole July 6, 2013
Have you heard that Zoo Atlanta has a Splash Fountain?   It just opened on July 2.   Raymond King, CEO of Zoo Atlanta stated the one complaint he always got regarding the zoo, was the heat of Hot-lanta.  He has installed misting stands, but that did not solve the problem.  Zoo Atlanta sponsored by Atlanta Fulton County Recreation Authority decided to open a 2,500 square foot Splash Fountain in the Kids Zone section.

My children, along with other Atlanta Macaroni Kid publishers and I had the pleasure of opening Splash Fountain to the public.    Mr. King did a ceremonial countdown and off the kids ran in.

The Splash Fountain is located right by the carousel and the train depot.  There are a total of 18 water jets with recycled water, each with its own LED light effects.  The jets ranged in heights so the smaller children would not be intimated by the heights of the spray.    Zoo Atlanta thought of everything.  They just opened a new bathroom facility right next to Splash Fountain.  There is also a bunch of cubby holes for your kids’ shoes.   All around the Fountain are a bunch of seats, so that parents / caregivers can sit and watch their children.   These seats are located in a shady spot and they hardly get wet.  For added amusement to the children, the train runs right by the Fountain.

The activity is free with general admission and will be open seasonally from April to October, weather permitting.  For more information, please go HERE.
