Spango: Spanish Immersion Play-Based Program

Atlanta mom builds the life she wants through language and culture

By Jackie Castillo, Owner of Spango January 25, 2018

Did you know Spanish is the second most language spoken in the world second to Mandarin Chinese? “

According to babbel.com, the U.S. is the second largest Spanish speaking country home to 41 million native speakers and 12 bilinguals. Reports predict the U.S. will be the largest Spanish speaking country by 2050.

As the owner, of Spango, Spanish has given me a better understanding of the world.  Allowed me to experience travel on a deeper level, and has allowed me to stay connected to my roots. (I am first generation Cuban American). Academically, Spanish has helped me with memory recall and even on my SATS. Did you know that students who take a second language scored higher on SAT/ACT scores? I grew up in South Florida where Spanish was part of life from infancy. (Fun fact: The best time to teach a child a second language is during their formative years or between 1-5 yrs of age. )

As a child, I used it to share pleasantries with neighbors, make friends, and connect with my grandparents. As an adult, I now use it to advance my career, help others (for instance I once helped a couple communicate with a store manager when shopping for Christmas gifts for their son), and as a tool to connect my children to their roots. After the birth of my children, my passion for the language grew but my ability to expose my children to the language became increasingly difficult. With schools, friends, and our community being non-Spanish speaking I learned that my journey of exposing my children to Spanish outside a classroom was a lonely one.

I decided to create the world I wanted my children to see through Spango, a Spanish Immersion play-based program, taught by trained professionals that come from all walks of life and spoke in a neutral easy to understand the accent. I teamed up with local educators and linguists to create it.

Spango is proud to offer your family the unique opportunity to expose your children to Spanish through play. We pride ourselves on delivering a top-quality immersion experience to your family.
