Center for Puppetry Arts: Peter Pan

September 25 โ€“ October 28

By Center for Puppetry Arts September 14, 2018

The Center for Puppetry Arts invites families to take off on an adventure to the island of Neverland when the beloved fairy tale Peter Pan hits the stage, September 25 – October 28. Guests can join the Darling children on a number of adventures, including an encounter with mermaids, mischievous antics with the Lost Boys and a run-in with Captain Hook and the crocodile. Performed in blacklight, the family-favorite show features vibrant sets, flying puppets and original music to bring the magic of the beloved fantasy story to life on stage.

The Center’s production of Peter Pan is based on the classic book by J.M. Barrie and was adapted for the puppet stage by Michael Haverty. Tim Sweeney directs the production, and local, Atlanta musician Jeffrey Bützer composed the music. Puppeteers Dolph Amick, Qate Bean, Hannah Chiclana, Luis Hernandez, and Kristin Storla operate the various types of puppets, including blacklight, rod and shadow puppetry styles.

The Center for Puppetry Arts is continuing its dedication to programming for patrons with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) on Sunday, October 7 with sensory-friendly modifications to the 1 p.m. performance as well as in the Museum from noon-1 p.m. and in the Create-A-Puppet Workshops™ from 1:45-2:30 p.m. The Center will also provide a quiet room, social stories, noise-reducing headphones and fidget toys for guests wishing to use those resources. For details, visit Center for Puppetry Arts Sensory-Friendly Programming.

On Saturday, October 13 and Sunday, October 14, Girl Scouts are invited to participate in a series of activities to earn all four STEM patches in one day. Scouts will explore the science connections in the show; technology behind puppet performances; engineering used to design some of the puppets in the Worlds of Puppetry Museum exhibits; and the math utilized to build a puppet in a customized Create-A-Puppet Workshop™.  Activities will take place from 10 a.m.-1:30 p.m. on Saturday, and noon-3:30 p.m. on Sunday.

Peter Pan will be presented in the Mainstage Theater, September 25 – October 28. Reduced-price previews take place Tuesday, September 25 and Wednesday, September 26 at 10 a.m. and noon.  The regular show schedule is as follows:

Wednesday – Friday: 10 a.m. and 11:30 a.m.
Saturday: 11 a.m. and 1 p.m.
Sunday: 1 p.m. and 3 p.m.
