October’s Line Up of Events to Showcase Unique Arts and Culture of the Destination

By Discover Dunwoody September 28, 2020

Discover Dunwoody announced the return of its annual Arts & Culture Monthinviting visitors and locals alike to discover the colors of the community located above Atlanta.  Throughout October, the organization will spotlight destination partners and events that contribute artistic and cultural treasures to the City of Dunwoody, making it one of the region’s most creative communities.

With temperatures in the mid-70’s, October is a wonderful time of the year to explore the outdoors in Dunwoody, and this year’s Arts & Culture Month will feature new art exhibitions and activities for all ages to enjoy outside, including but not limited to:

  • Art in the Parks -- at 3 p.m. on October 1, the City of Dunwoody’s Parks and Recreation Department will kick off Art in the Parks by unveiling sidewalk chalk art from award-winning Artist Zach Hendron. The interactive 3D artwork will be debuted in the Veteran’s Memorial area of the city’s largest park, Brook Run Park.
  • "Artist in Residence” Mural Unveiling -- the first annual AMPLIFY winning artist, Christopher Michaels, will bring a new mural to the side of Spruill Gallery’s “Smoke House.” On October 10, guests are invited to witness the unveiling of his artwork at one of Dunwoody’s most prominent spots, made famous by artist Jason Kofke’s “Everything Will Be OK” mural, which is being moved to a permanent display in Brook Run Park.
  • Painted Picnic Table Tour – during October, the city’s Economic Development Department is encouraging residents and visitors to take a tour of the vibrant painted picnic tables, created to encourage outdoor dining and support local Dunwoody restaurants. Participants can find a self-guided map on or download the City of Dunwoody app to find an interactive list with locations and images of the painted picnic tables that were designed to reflect the dynamic culture of the destination. The city will also be launching a T-shirt giveaway to celebrate the success of the project.

We are so excited to kick off Arts & Culture Month by welcoming new outdoor art to our community! It is a fun way for families and friends to experience Dunwoody’s emerging art scene and discover unique events and activities centered around what makes our city so special,” said Kimberly Franz, marketing director for Discover Dunwoody. “We love that Dunwoody is home to so many diverse organizations that give our guests and locals a place to be creative and learn about the different cultural aspects of our community, and we’re happy to celebrate them all month long.”

With events focused on art, music, food, history, and more, Dunwoody’s Arts & Culture Month will provide no shortage of safe and fun activities for all. This year’s Arts & Culture Month participating partners include the City of Dunwoody; Chattahoochee Handweavers Guild; CREATE Dunwoody; Dunwoody Preservation Trust; Spruill Center for the Arts; Dunwoody Nature Center; Painting with a Twist, among others.

In its third year, Dunwoody’s Arts & Culture Month was created alongside National Arts and Humanities Month to spotlight the artistic and cultural organizations in the community. Designed to give citizens and organizations the recognition they deserve, the month-long celebration exemplifies Dunwoody’s dedication to the arts and brings together the diverse arts, culture and nature organizations that contribute to the community.
