City Springs Theatre Company Master Class Series

City Springs Theatre Company has a unique partnership with the City of Sandy Springs that began even before the Sandy Springs Performing Arts Center opened its doors in 2018. The City of Sandy Springs has committed to serving students through high-quality arts experiences, which are coordinated and produced by City Springs Theatre Company.  We kick off Second Season with a list of high-quality master classes that take place right on the Byers Stage at the Sandy Springs Performing Arts Center!  We have something for every student interested in the arts ranging from dance, acting, singing, and even technical theatre!  To register for the classes below, please visit City Springs Theatre Company Master Classes.

Disney’s Mary Poppins The Broadway Musical Dance Master Class

Grades: 6th-College
Cost: $25/Student, $15/Observer Pass
Calling all musical theatre students! You’re invited to learn choreography from Disney’s Mary Poppins The Broadway Musical! Led by CSTC Resident Choreographer, Cindy Mora Reiser, students will do a dance warm-up, learn up to two numbers from the show, and participate in a Q & A where students are encouraged to ask about auditions, the creative process, and the excitement of performing every night! Parents are invited to join the classroom for Q & A.
Students should wear comfortable clothes and shoes in which they can easily move and bring a bottle of water.


Disney’s Mary Poppins The Broadway Musical Technical Theatre Master Class

Calling all technical theatre students! You’re invited to a behind-the-scenes view of City Springs Theatre Company’s production of Disney’s Mary Poppins The Broadway Musical!  Led by CSTC’s Production Manager, Justin Gamerl, students will participate in learning all aspects of technical theatre, including learning about the fly rail, set pieces, wardrobe, props, etc. In addition, students will tour the state-of-the-art Sandy Springs Performing Arts Center and may even learn the secrets of May Poppins’ magic and flying effects.  The class will end with a Q&A where students are encouraged to ask anything and everything about technical theatre. Students will receive practical technical theatre knowledge and training during this unique 2-hour workshop!


Irving Berlin’s Holiday Inn Tap Dance Master Class

Cost: $25/Student, $15/Observer Pass
Calling all musical theatre students! You’re invited to learn choreography from Irving Berlin’s Holiday Inn!  Based on the classic film starring Bing Crosby and Fred Astaire, students will do a dance warm-up, learn classic tap dancing from the show, and participate in a Q & A where students are encouraged to ask about auditions, the creative process, and the excitement of performing every night!
Parents are invited to join the classroom for Q & A.

Irving Berlin’s Holiday Inn Technical Theater Master Class

Calling all musical theatre students! You’re invited to learn from the lead Gentleman himself about comedic timing and acting ploys from the hit musical A Gentleman’s Guide to Love and Murder!  This murderous and hilarious story about the heir to a family fortune who sets out to speed up the line of succession by using a great deal of charm —and a dash of murder — is filled with unforgettable music and non-stop laughs.  Students will learn basic acting exercises as well as activities that allow them to explore their inner comedian!  The last 15 minutes will consist of a Q & A where students are encouraged to ask about auditions, the creative process, and the excitement of performing every night!

Sister Act Vocal Coaching Master Class

Calling all musical theatre and voice students! You’re invited to take advantage of this unique vocal coaching opportunity based on City Springs Theatre Company’s production of Sister Act!  Filled with powerful gospel music, outrageous dancing, and a truly moving story, Sister Act leaves audiences breathless.  Join us as we lead a group session to take your song choices for auditions, shows, etc. to a whole new level.  In this master class, students will be asked to bring a song from their repertoire and have a chance to perform to the group and one of our lead actors of the show.  The students will be given constructive criticism to walk away more confident in the performance of the piece they’ve chosen.  The class will finish with a Q&A session where students are encouraged to ask about auditions, the creative process, and the excitement of performing every night!  
Parents are invited to join the classroom for Q & A.
Class capacity is 15 students.

Monty Python’s Spamalot Improvisation/Acting Master Class

Calling all musical theatre students! You’re invited to learn improvisational acting ploys from the hit musical Monty Python’s Spamalot!  This 2005 Tony Award winner for Best Musical features a memorable array of musical numbers and gut-busting laughs.  Students will do learn basic acting exercises as well as improvisational activities that allow them to act on their feet!  Improvisation is both a fundamental part of dramatic acting and a standalone art form in and of itself.
The last 15 minutes will consist of a Q & A where students are encouraged to ask about auditions, the creative process, and the excitement of performing every night!
