Medieval Times Dinner & Tournament

By Bonnie Matura August 22, 2019

My kids' ages 8 and 11 and I recently were guests of Medieval Times Dinner & Tournament with Sandy Springs Dunwoody Macaroni Kid and her daughter in exchange for this review. What a hidden gem!  We have lived in the greater Atlanta area for 14 years and this was our first time to go.

If you haven't had a chance to go, I would highly recommend it and the following is why.

  • First, it is like taking a step back into time...Medieval Times Dinner & Tournament Everyone is dressed in beautiful period clothing.  We got to meet the Queen upon entry and had our picture taken with her.  I recommend arriving early so that you can look at the different items for sale. There is a wide variety of items that are offered from light up swords, princess hats, to the wooden sword and shield sets (which we bought!).  If you are the type to get a drink from the bar there are a wide variety of themed drinks that you can purchase along with a variety of choices of themed souvenir beverage holders.  As we waited for entry into the stadium we witnessed a sweet proposal of marriage. It was special to witness it and the announcer made it special for the lucky couple.

  • Next, they invited us by groups into the stadium for our seating. We were to cheer for the "Black & White Knight."  Once we were seated we were then assisted by our waitress - who was very much into character and wearing her period clothing. She was an excellent waitress and was very helpful in assisting me with my food choices as I have celiac disease offering substitutes so that I still got my monies worth. There was a lot of food! I loved the unique serving style with no utensils and the food was also very good. We even got dessert! Then the show began.

I must say that this was an impressive show. The horses are absolutely beautiful are impeccably trained. They were trained to do very difficult sequences and were able to demonstrate their skills flawlessly. You will be impressed with what these animals can do. Since I love horses I'd say this was my favorite part, followed by the exciting shows of strength and fighting skills of the knights. We cheered heartily for our Black & White Knight who ultimately won, which was quite fun. The storyline of the show was very entertaining and my kids were mesmerized the entire time. We ended up purchasing a light-up sword which was enthusiastically raised as our Knight jousted and fought with his opponents.

The show had to end, but we were given the opportunity to meet and take a picture with our Knight and really you can take a picture with any of the knights.  All in all, I say this a good value for your money and we enjoyed ourselves immensely.
