Children’s Museum of Atlanta invites families to celebrate February’s many holidays with interactive, educational programming all month long! Kids can dive into impactful African American history as they commemorate Black History Month, fall in love with reading and colorful crafts with Valentine’s Day programming and more. In addition, the Museum continues to welcome guests to the whimsical world of remarkable children’s book author Mo Willems and his charming characters with The Pigeon Comes to Atlanta! A Mo Willems Exhibit. Prioritizing the health of its visitors, the Children’s Museum of Atlanta provides enhanced health and safety procedures to ensure comfort and well-being.

Black History Month

Monday, Feb. 1 – Sunday, Feb. 28 (excluding Feb. 2, Feb. 13-15 and Feb. 27-28)

Families are encouraged to join the Children’s Museum of Atlanta to celebrate Black History Month! Highlighting African American heroes on Stage and at the Science Bar, kids will take part in hands-on activities to learn about Black scientists, engineers and mathematicians such as biochemist Marie Daly, among others. In Creativity Café, little ones will craft and invent while learning about Black artists and innovators, including painter Jacob Lawrence, inventor Granville Wood and more.

  • Feb. 16-28 Beginner Ballet with ballet dancer Misty Copeland + Storytime: Firebird by Misty Copeland Session A: 10 a.m. and 11 a.m. / Session B: 1 p.m. and 2 p.m. / Session C: 4 p.m. and 5 p.m.
Science Bar

Kids will learn about biochemist Marie Daly, electrical engineer Otis Boykin, mathematician Marjorie Lee Browne and surgeon Vivien Thomas. Session A: 10 a.m. / Session B: 1 p.m. / Session C: 4 p.m.

Creativity Café

Little ones will explore Granville Wood’s telegraphony invention; Jacob Lawrence’s dynamic cubism; Augusta Savage’s and James Washington, Jr.’s sculptures; and Gwendolyn Magee’s fiber art. Session A: 10 a.m. / Session B: 1 p.m. / Session C: 4 p.m.

Groundhog Day

Tuesday, Feb. 2

Whether there will be six more weeks of winter or early spring, guests are invited to the Children’s Museum of Atlanta’s Groundhog Day celebration. Little ones will enjoy a reading of Mr. Groundhog Wants the Day Off and spectacular activities, including embarking on a scavenger hunt, diving into shadow science and creating a groundhog pop-up craft.

Lunar New Year



Saturday, Feb. 13

Join the Children’s Museum of Atlanta for a special Lunar New Year storytime and craft! Children will be reading a book about Lunar New Year, popping bubble wrap fireworks and making paper lanterns.

Valentine’s Day

Sunday, Feb. 14

Kids are invited to join the Museum’s reading of Pete the Cat: Valentine’s Day is Cool by James Dean and crafting colorful cards for their loved ones and even themselves! Programs will focus on ways to encourage and uplift others during this heartfelt holiday.

President’s Day

Monday, Feb. 15

Families will enjoy reading Andrea Beaty’s Sofia Valdez, Future Prez and discover the most important part about being president: caring for those around you. The nation’s next generation of leaders will have the chance to share their plans for making the world a better place.

Tell a Fairy Tale Day

Saturday, Feb. 27

Little ones will discover the world of “Once Upon a Time” with this National Tell a Fairy Tale Day celebration! This fascinating day will be filled with fantasy and lore, allowing guests to indulge in reading, writing and literary creativity.

Purim

Sunday, Feb. 28

Guests are encouraged to celebrate the Jewish holiday of Purim, which commemorates the bravery of Queen Esther and the life of the Jewish people, at the Children’s Museum of Atlanta! Kids will participate in a special Purim storytime and craft.

The Pigeon Comes to Atlanta! A Mo Willems Exhibit Through Sunday, May 9


Visitors are welcome to the enchanting world of beloved children’s book author Mo Willems and his adored characters including best friend duo Elephant Gerald and Piggie, faithful companion Knuffle Bunny and the wily city bird, The Pigeon, best known for his antics in Don’t Let the Pigeon Drive the Bus! On Stage, kids can enjoy some of Willems’ exciting Elephant & Piggie books. The learning continues at the Science Bar and Creativity Café, where kids will dive into animal science and create Mo Willems-related arts and crafts.

Sensory Friendly Session

Sunday, Feb. 7

Families with children on the autism spectrum or with sensory processing disorders are encouraged to join the Museum’s 2021 Sensory Friendly Sessions! On select Sunday during Session A, kids can enjoy a playful, hands-on experience with a sensory modified setting, limited admission and sound and lighting adjustments to ensure safety and comfort. Session A: 9:30 a.m.
