The City of Dunwoody will hold its annual Veterans Day Ceremony at 10 a.m. on November 11 at the Veterans Memorial at Brook Run Park (4770 N. Peachtree Road). The public ceremony is hosted by Dunwoody Parks and Recreation with support from the Dunwoody/Sandy Springs VFW Post 10822 and Dunwoody Woman’s Club.
“I'm always thankful for the opportunity to pay tribute to the courageous men and women who made great sacrifices to defend our country and uphold our freedoms,” said Dunwoody Mayor Lynn Deutsch. “Our Veterans Day Ceremony is an important tradition in Dunwoody.”
The featured speaker will be Lieutenant Colonel (Retired) Thomas W. Ariail, who served in the United States Army for more than 23 years in worldwide assignments in various combat zones. He retired from the military in 2008 at Fort McPherson, Georgia, and now serves as Commander of VFW Post 10822. He’ll be accompanied by his sidekick, Normandy, a Great Pyrenees therapy dog that spreads cheer throughout the community.
The Master of Ceremonies will be Dunwoody Police Chief Mike Carlson, Georgia National Guard Captain (Retired). Dunwoody Council Member Joe Seconder, Major, US Army (Retired), will lead the Pledge of Allegiance. Rev. Dr. Dana Everhart, Senior Pastor at Kingswood Church, will give the invocation and benediction.
