Brookhaven Celebrates National Hispanic Heritage Month

The City of Brookhaven is celebrating National Hispanic Heritage Month by honoring the culture and contributions of the Latinx community with a special proclamation, cultural performances, food, and highlighting the diversity and resilience of our vibrant Buford Highway Corridor.

 Events include:

  • DeKalb School District Fiesta – Sept. 21, noon- 4 p.m.

Brookhaven joins the DeKalb County School District in their third annual celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month with a fiesta for families and the community at Doraville United Elementary School, (3036 Shallowford Rd.)

  • National Hispanic Heritage Month Proclamation – Sept. 24 at 6:30 p.m.

On Sept. 24, Mayor John Park will present a proclamation to recognize Sept. 15 through Oct. 15 as National Hispanic Heritage Month in Brookhaven. During the City Council meeting (4362 Peachtree Road), the Mayor will present the proclamation on behalf of the City to several organizations working tirelessly in support of the Latinx community, including the Consulate general of Mexico in Atlanta, the Latin American Association, The Georgia Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, and Amigos de la Comunidad, as well as other community partners.

  • Latinx-themed Brookhaven Food Truck Roundup – Sept. 25. From 5 – 8 p.m.

Join us as we celebrate National Hispanic Heritage Month with live music and delicious Latinx food. Our popular Brookhaven Food Truck Roundup at Blackburn Park, (3493 Ashford Dunwoody Road), will feature Hispanic-themed food trucks, free piñata workshop for kids, and live salsa/Latin music by Son Latino Atlanta.

  • Cielo Tejido (Woven Sky) exhibit – The month of October

The City of Brookhaven is proud to announce that the Cielo Tejido (Woven Sky) exhibit will be located on the Peachtree Creek Greenway (PCG) throughout the month of October. The Cielo Tejido exhibit originates from Jalisco, Mexico and is a 665 foot (200 m) hand-woven canopy which will envelop the PCG overlook bridge near the PCG trailhead (1801 Corporate Blvd).  This internationally renowned exhibit not only represents an artistic masterpiece, but it also embodies the cultural values that Brookhaven celebrates as well.
