The Great Backyard Bird Count-Get Involved!

By Mary Monahan February 13, 2020

Become a citizen scientist next weekend, February 14-17. The Great Backyard Bird Count (GBBC) is a free, fun, and easy event. Participants (young and old) are asked to count birds and then report the number to give an accurate and real-time snapshot of our bird populations. Lincoln has many bird counting events that you can join and help out our birds. You can even go out in your own backyard and count birds for a minimum of 15 minutes and then report your findings at the Great Backyard Bird Count!

It doesn't matter if you recognize the birds, all that matters is that you count them and submit the data. You can spend as little as fifteen minutes counting the birds. Where should you count the birds?

  • Count the birds visiting your bird feeder
  • Take a walk through your neighborhood count the birds
  • Go on a drive and count the birds
  • Just count the birds
